- Other symptoms. Those with social anxiety also report such things as a failure to concentrate, sleep or enjoy life. Some people find that they suffer from headaches, general malaise and other symptoms like, a constricted throat, dry mouth and shivers.

Social anxiety can present itself as an extreme fear of a particular type of social situation. It can also impact on all aspects of life outside of one's comfort zone. In extreme cases, people often try to completely remove themselves from any and all situations that have been known to trigger extreme feelings of fear.

Getting a full medical and psychological check-up to eliminate other potential triggers can put a person with social anxiety on the right path to recovery. If the condition is properly diagnosed and treated, there is a very good chance that patients can master the situation. In many instances, a combination of medications and therapy will be prescribed to help sufferers regain control over their lives and social situations. Being a little apprehensive in public places is not at all uncommon. When fears take over, there is most likely a more serious, underlying problem.
